Training Workshop Programme for Scotland 2019-20 now published

Our Training Workshop Programme for Scotland 2019-20 has now been finalised and full details are available on the website. The programme includes 8 workshops, covering a variety of topics suitable for planning, enforcement and administrative/support staff, with the first two workshops scheduled to take place in Edinburgh on 11 June 2019: The Use and Abuse of Planning Conditions and Section 75 Obligations and Managing the Planning Customer’s Experience.

Focused training for Councillors on specific aspects of planning

TRA has trained Councillors involved in planning in more than 250 local authorities throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Where Councillors have already undertaken basic training, we are able to conduct more detailed sessions on specific aspects of planning. These are mainly half-day "modules" with a single presenter. Topics include specialist aspects of planning and updates on policy, procedure and good practice.

​Rushcliffe and Welwyn Hatfield Planners work on their presenting skills

Planners, and particularly middle-tier managers, often find themselves thrust into the spotlight by having to make presentations to Planning Committees, pressure groups, other stakeholders etc. However, it is still unusual to find that those presenting have received any kind of formal training in presentation skills. With this in mind, two Councils recently commissioned TRA to deliver in-house training on Presentation Skills for Planners.

Broadwindsor Neighbourhood Plan submitted for examination

The latest Neighbourhood Plan to be submitted to TRA for Independent Examination is the Broadwindsor Neighbourhood Plan. The plan was submitted in February by West Dorset District Council and Brian Dodd has been appointed as the Examiner.
