Conference for Planning Support Staff - details now finalised

Details for this year's Conference for Planning Support Staff taking place in London on 24 May 2018 have now been finsalised and are available to view on the TRA website. This annual Conference is aimed at all administrative and technical staff involved in the planning process and addresses new areas of practice as well as day-to-day issues. Since our last Conference 12 months ago, the government has announced a number of changes and new initiatives, and this latest Conference offers participants the opportunity to understand the current direction of travel and reflect on their planning service delivery and how it might look in the future.

Councillor training - not just for those with elections

Wyre Borough Council recently commissioned TRA to deliver a short evening session for their Members, and neighbouring Members, on the Role of Councillors in Planning. This session is designed to help Councillors understand and appreciate their role and functions more clearly as a basis for contributing more effectively. In particular it helps Councillors to understand something of the broader framework of planning.

More Government funding for neighbourhood plans

The Government has recently signalled its ongoing commitment to neighbourhood planning by allocating over £23m in additional funding between 2018 and 2022 to support the development of neighbourhood plans and neighbourhood development orders. With significant momentum behind neighbourhood planning, TRA is here to assist LPAs with the independent examination stage of the process.

The 2018-19 Workshop Programme gets underway on 7 June 2018 with two workshops taking place at The Wesley in London. They will be focusing on Development in the Green Belt and Enforcement of Listed Building Control. Maidstone organises training for staff new to processing applications

Maidstone BC recently ran TRA's Beginner's Guide to Processing Planning Applications on an in-house basis. The course de-mystifyies the process and gives staff who are just beginning to deal with planning applications, or are relatively new to the role, the opportunity to focus on key concepts and approaches.
