Could your planning reports to Committee be improved?

TRA was recently commissioned to deliver a one-day Officer workshop for Waverley BC on report writing. This interactive course, entitled Writing Effective Reports: making the best use of your case and your time, offers clear guidance on how reports can be improved and provides an opportunity for debate about good practice, drawing on the presenter's long experience both of local government planning and the work of the Planning Inspectorate.

Update on TRA Neighbourhood Plan Examinations

The Arlesey Neighbourhood Plan, in Central Bedfordshire, is the latest plan to be submitted to TRA for Independent Examination. TRA Examiners also concluded their examination of two other plans in June and recommended that they go forward to referendum following modification. These were the Asfordby Neighbourhood Plan, submitted by Melton BC and the Fairfield Neighbourhood Plan, submitted by Central Bedfordshire Council, which only required minor modifications.

Scotland Programme 2017 - 4 workshops to choose from in November

The Autumn section of our Workshop Programme in Scotland will see a bumper crop of workshops in November, with 4 taking place on 1-2 November at the Edinburgh Training and Conference Centre. The centre is conveniently located just off the Royal Mile and is less than 10 minutes walk from Waverley Station. Topics to be covered include the Basics of Planning, an Introduction to Enforcement, Effective Planning Appeals and Negotiation.

A busy couple of months for in-house Councillor training!

May and June saw an influx of post-election Councillor training bookings for TRA, with 20 workshops running throughout England and Wales. If your authority is looking beyond post-election/introductory training for Members, we are also able to conduct more detailed sessions on specific aspects of planning. These are mainly half-day "modules" with a single presenter.

Excellent response to this year's Conference for Planning Support Staff

TRA held a very successful 2017 Conference for Planning Support Staff in London on 25 May. The conference was attended by just under 70 people who gathered to hear a diverse range of speakers cover a mix of topics, creating a varied and stimulating day. Feedback from the delegates suggests this year's conference was one of the best received and most successful to date.

Jed Griffiths practices what he preaches on sustainability

Our Senior Associate, Jed Griffiths, has a passion for environmental issues. On a recent trip to Wales he certainly proved that he practices what he preaches on the sustainability front. Jed was delivering training on planning for members of Snowdonia National Park Authority and did the entire journey by train including a trip on the Ffestiniog Railway.
