An exciting opportunity for a driven and self motivated Principal Urban Design Officer to play a key role in one of London’s most progressive and exciting boroughs.

The role

Lewisham is undergoing huge transformation with unparalleled levels of investment, and a regeneration programme for the area. With major developments in Catford, Lewisham, Deptford, New Cross and others across the borough, award winning schemes, two Housing Zones and the Bakerloo Line extension, the transformation is well underway.

At the heart of the borough’s transformation is recognition of the importance of high quality design and the value that this adds to existing and future residents, businesses and visitors. We understand that the principle of good urban design is a fundamental component of achieving good growth and an inherent part of successful change in the borough.

The Principal Urban Design Officer will take the leading role in managing design matters supporting this transformation including:

  • Managing the design teams input into the Development Management process, providing specialist design advice into complex and strategic major applications
  • Managing and developing forward planning/placemaking strategies, SPDs and masterplans for future growth and prosperity within the borough
  • Working collaboratively with the Bakerloo Line Extension manager, Infrastructure Manager and Principal Policy Officer to ensure good design and spatial thinking is at heart of all decision making within the Council.

The successful candidate will work within our multi-disciplinary Strategic Planning team to guide change within the borough.
