The Borough of Surrey Heath is diverse and in addition to urban and town locations contains countryside and rural settlements, conservation areas, Green Belt land and sites of nature conservation. This is an exciting and challenging time for the Council with significant regeneration opportunities earmarked in Camberley Town Centre.
Working as part of the Council’s Regulatory Service the successful applicant will deliver efficient design advice and guidance to support major Council projects. Working with developers, agents and specialist consultancies, the post holder will lead the preparation of masterplans, site specific urban design briefs and public realm improvement proposals.
In conjunction with the policy team you will assist with the urban design component of the local plan identifying issues and recommending solutions that add value to enable the production of sound policy and guidance documents in line with the Council’s corporate objectives.
With a sound understanding of planning law and circular guidance you will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of design issues on major sites and be able to improve and enhance the quality of schemes.
You will be responsible for your own caseload and will have exceptional organisational skills to enable you to manage multiple projects with competing demands and priorities. You will use your own initiative to deliver agreed outcomes on time with the ability to judge when more complex or highly politicised issues need to be further discussed. You will be required to engage in consultation events with the public, representing the Council, which may include meetings outside of normal working hours.
Benefits include a minimum of 24 days annual leave, Local Government Pension Scheme and free parking.
