New training for those involved in the planning and delivery of strategic sites

TRA is currently developing a new suite of workshops to help local authorities with the issues around the allocation and delivery of large strategic sites. Many authorities have fairly limited experience of planning for large sites and against the backdrop of the need to significantly increase the delivery of housing in particular, improving their understanding and skills in this area is essential. There will be courses on offer for both officers and Councillors.

This new training initiative is being developed in association with Hyas Associates. Hyas Associates is a national, multi-disciplinary practice consisting of senior professionals with extensive experience of planning for and delivering all aspects of large scale, residential-led sites. Many of the team were previously part of the HCA's Advisory Team for Large Applications.  Hyas act directly for numerous local authorities across the country providing advice, guidance and support on planning and delivery issues and therefore have a range of up-to-date and relevant experience and knowledge to draw on.

Topics covered will include: allocating strategic sites; masterplanning; viability and infrastructure; managing the planning process for large residential sites; and delivering quality residential schemes.

The workshop series will be available to local authorities on an in-house basis shortly and we are intending to include a couple of the workshops in our inter-authority programme for 2018-19.

Details will be published in the next few weeks on our website and in future issues of ENews. If you would like to register your interest in these courses please email your details to and we’ll send you details as soon as they are available.
