Don't miss our Introduction to Masterplanning

One of our relatively new workshops focuses on the masterplanning process for the benefit of those who are new to this aspect of planning or who have limited experience.  An Introduction to Masterplaning featured in the TRA programme for the first time in 2018-19 and has also been delivered successfully on an in-house basis. It will next be running in London on 5 March 2020 and there are places available if you would like to attend.

This is an interactive workshop developed for those who want to understand the masterplanning process for residential sites and how to create effective, quality led masterplans that will facilitate delivery.  The key objectives of the workshop are to:

  • enable participants to develop a broader understanding and appreciation of the overall masterplanning process and the level of spatial and delivery detail needed at each stage of the planning process
  • help participants to understand the differences between masterplans, spatial frameworks and development briefs – and when to use them
  • explore good examples of masterplans and define what quality places look like
  • enable participants to share experiences and learning with other planning and design professionals and have a go at creating a spatial framework for a large site.

The course is very practical, so the focus will be on good practice from around the country in the form of case examples, but will also examine techniques and approaches that practitioners can apply themselves. There will be ample time for questions and discussion, to explore current issues faced by participants and to share experiences between attendees.

The workshop is delivered by Stephen Hill, Chartered Town Planner and Director of Hyas Associates. Steve has particular skills in managing large scale development projects through the planning process; advising on policy approaches to strategic sites; masterplanning; building capacity to deal with large projects; and the deliverability of quality places.
