TRA has been providing essential training on planning for Councillors for well over 20 years and has trained Councillors (whether members of planning Committee or not) in over 250 local authorities.
Our two longest-running and most popular courses, A Briefing on Planning for Councillors and The Role of Councillors in Planning, are still going strong and in recent years we have introduced shorter versions of these normally full-day workshops. Although the overall scope and objectives of these workshops have remained largely the same over the years, the detailed content is updated as the planning context changes and is reviewed on a regular basis to ensure it remains current.
We have recently undertaken a more comprehensive review of our main suite of Councillor training courses to refresh the content and rationalise it where required and to ensure consistency across the different courses.
There are three main options, with a couple of variations, if you are looking to provide training on planning for Councillors:
- A Briefing on Planning for Councillors - either full-day session with two presenters or half-day version with one presenter
- The Role of Councillors in Planning - either full-day session with two presenters or half-day version with one presenter
- A Planning Workshop for Councillors, which combines elements of both of the above in a full-day session with one presenter.
