We are pleased to announce that details have now been finalised for this year's Conference for Planning Support Staff which will be taking place at The Wesley in London on 23 May 2019.
TRA has been organising an annual conference for planning support staff since 1991. The event represents a unique and extremely valuable opportunity to meet with colleagues from other authorities and learn about current best practice and future developments affecting planning.
In this period of particular political, economic and social uncertainty, it may seem that planning has taken a bit of a back seat. However, there have been a number of significant “background” developments in the world of planning. While the revised NPPF published in July 2018 (and updated again in early 2019) represents a shift in some important elements of national planning policy, there have also been less high profile changes in terms of finances and how local authorities fund and deliver their services. Changes have also been proposed to the General Permitted Development Order and these are in the pipeline for later this year. To consider these issues the day will involve a mixture of general presentations and a round table discussion involving all the day’s speakers (and any delegates who would like to ask questions of the panel).
Our panel of contributors for this year will be:
- MICHAEL HYDE, Independant Planning Consultant and TRA Associate - Supporting the Enforcement Function
- CARON TAYLOR, Principal Planner at Chorley Borough Council - Permitted Development Rights
- EMILY BARRY, Planning Registration Team Leader at South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse Council - Funding an Effective Validation Service
- DEBBIE HARDY, Technical Planning Manager at Milton Keynes Council - The Use of Artificial Intelligence: one year on.
The Conference will be chaired by CHRIS WEETMAN, Independant Planning Consultant and TRA Associate.
Although not delivering a formal presentation this year, TRA Senior Associate VIVIEN GREEN will be attending and will contribute to the round table discussion.
Further details are available on the TRA website, where you can also view/download a leaflet in pdf format giving more details on the topics to be discussed.
