Module 3: The Enforcement Toolkit

This module will explore the range of options open to us when it comes to the taking of formal enforcement action. This will include the benefits of undertaking a robust investigation and the choice of notices that can be used to gather information about a suspected breach of control. The module will also cover the following: 

  • general matters (heath and safety, site visits and powers to enter land)
  • investigations and obtaining evidence (the use of PCNs, other notices etc)
  • expediency and the various options for action 
  • what constitutes taking enforcement action? (key enforcement "tools")
  • conditions and dealing with a breach of a condition
  • Enforcement Notices and Listed Building Enforcement Notices
  • Temporary Stop Notices and Stop Notices
  • Discontinuance Notices, S215s and Community Protection Notices
  • other relevant tools to consider (eg Completion Notices, Revocation)
