Lessons from Challenges to Officer Reports New
Inter-Authority Training

This half-day event will be delivered during the afternoon in a "Briefing" style but there will be opportunity for questions. An officer's report will always be a starting point for anyone wanting to challenge a decision of the council so this rare half day training opportunity will draw out what we can learn from some recent challenges. It will be appropriate for experienced case officers and those "signing off" reports on applications. It can be treated as a complementary session for anyone who has attended the earlier half day Development Management Legal Update, but it can stand alone to fulfil specific training needs. Topics to be covered and on which questions will be invited throughout will include: the legal basis for a recommendation, the need for consistency in decision making, the principles the courts will apply to a challenge and some recent noteworthy challenges where councils have both lost and won and the lessons that can be learnt.
